Information about thermo wood processing:
When wood is slowly heated in an oxygen-poor atmosphere from 160°C up to a maximum of 230°C over several hours, its components undergo transformation. This process provides our thermo-treated wood saunas with several advantages:
The natural resistance to fungi and pests increases, as certain wood components that microorganisms feed on are significantly decomposed during the heating process.
The wood’s water absorption capacity decreases. Swelling, cracking, or shrinking of the wood is reduced, leading to lower maintenance costs for our thermo-wood sauna houses.
Prolonged heating evaporates any trapped moisture in the wood.
The transformation process gives the wood a smoky scent that fades over time. The treated wood has a dark to coffee-brown color.
Important maintenance instructions for thermo-treated wood:
It is advisable to regularly coat the wood with a protective layer to guard it against bluing and fungi. Those who appreciate the natural gray color caused by weather exposure may omit additional treatment of thermo-treated wood. Windows, doors, panels, and sauna benches are not made from thermo-treated wood.
