Information about thermo wood processing:
When wood is slowly heated in an oxygen-poor atmosphere from 160°C up to a maximum of 230°C for several hours, the components of the wood undergo transformation. This transformation offers several advantages for our thermo-treated wooden sauna houses:
The natural resistance to fungi and pests increases, as certain wood components that microorganisms thrive on are significantly broken down during the heating process.
The wood’s water absorption capacity decreases. Swelling, cracking, or shrinking of the wood is reduced. The maintenance costs of our thermo-wood sauna houses are therefore lower.
Prolonged heating evaporates the trapped moisture in the wood.
The transformation process gives the wood a smoky scent that fades over time. The treated wood color is dark to coffee brown.
Important maintenance instructions for thermo-treated wood:
It is recommended to regularly coat the wood with a protective layer to protect it from bluing and fungi. Those who appreciate the grayish wood color caused by weather effects may forgo additional treatment of thermo-treated wood. Windows, doors, panels, and sauna benches are not made of thermo-treated wood.
